SAVE THE FUCKING DATE! On July 11th Tiana and I are resurrecting Babes in Bikeland. It will be an event to remember, and we are hoping to bring back a lot of the community joy and strength that this event used to highlight so well.
What was Babes in Bikeland? Babes was a bike event that spanned 10 years, it started in 2006 as an alleycat and by its final year in 2016 was a community institution that focused on being more than an alleycat, and instead was centered on being a community celebration for women, trans, queer and gender expansive riders. For many of us, it was our first Mpls bike event, and it set a high fucking bar.
Over the years it changed leadership and organizers and it’s with the blessing, support and involvement of multiple of the long term organizers (we love you Kat, Jess and Low!) that Tiana and I are approaching throwing this event. I don’t think we will match quite the high bar that was set in its final year in 2016 (they uh, had First Ave as the final party space) but we’re gonna do our fucking best and hope you’ll be a part of our event!
